Anyone who has recently visited any of the common employment sites will recognize that there is a dire need for well-trained junior computer wizards and wizardettes. It is therefore a no-brainer to extend IT education programs to the traditionally underserved. However, I note that extending education in other subjects (particularly critical thinking and language arts) to these folks is equally important. Appropriate application of IT to problems requires a knowledge base broad enough to enable understanding of the use case and the intended end-user audience. Some education in IT ethics is also essential.
